The village of Erieau in Chatham-Kent is transitioning from an field-based mostly neighborhood to a tourism and recreation-based mostly neighborhood, and with that comes increasing pains.
Targeted visitors congestion, parking and the effects of small-term rentals on the housing market are some of the fears that have arrive up in a recent online study of people.
The Erieau Community Association and the municipality are holding community sessions Saturday to focus on the outcomes of that survey and the future course of the neighborhood.
Scott Vidler, chair of the association’s strategic setting up committee, said the neighborhood has observed a large shift.
“Erieau has transitioned from an industrial local community with a coal lawn and a professional fish packing plant to a household and vacationer group,” he claimed. “And what we’re wanting at now is, exactly where do we go in the potential.”
There are about 400 residents in the neighborhood, which juts out into Lake Erie, but the population swells from 1,200 to 1,400 in the summer months, Vidler believed.
